Kate’s Bubble Dress: Love It or Hate It?

$

If you’ve seen Kate Beckinsale fighting the undead in a second-skin latex bodysuit, you know that she has a body worth flaunting. Yet, at an event in Germany this past weekend, Kate passed on any number of body-hugging dresses and chose this voluminous satin frock instead. Always in step with the latest fashion, Kate is showing off one of fall’s biggest trends, the bubble dress. We’ve already seen volume, but the bubble is more contained at the hem, while still showing off toned arms and legs. And the soft rosettes at the neckline do direct attention to Kate’s lovely face and defined shoulders. Would you wear this dress? What do you think of the “bubble”?

Summer hasn’t even officially arrived yet, but Kate Beckinsale is already taking inches off her tresses in anticipation. To prep for the warm weather, the British beauty recently trimmed her long tresses in favor of a shoulder length do. Of her new style, Beckinsale told PEOPLE, “Oh you know, summer, let the breeze hit my neck!” With loose curls barely grazing her collarbone, the actress proves a convenient cut can still be chic and demonstrates how to freshen your look with just a subtle change. So what does Beckinsale’s husband, Len Wiseman, think of her chopping her luscious locks? “He does (like it)– it’s not a massive change though.” What do you think? Tell us: Do you love or hate Kate Beckinsale’s new shorter do?Michelle Ward

Kate Beckinsale might be wowing French fans every night on the red carpet at Cannes, but the leggy actress has come a long way since her first appearance on the steps of the famous Palais. “Last time I was here I was 18-years-old and it was for Much Ado About Nothing, and I was so unprepared,” she told PEOPLE during a brief hiatus from her duties as a juror at the Film Festival. “I bought a body stocking at the airport that was too small so I popped out of it on the red carpet. I had Doc Martens boots on, and I think I put the flower from the breakfast tray in my hair,” she said laughing. “No one told me that you could have a hair and make up stylist! It’s a different climate now of course.” Indeed it is. The 36-year-old British actress now has a dedicated team of stylists making sure she is polished and red carpet-ready every evening, often with several outfit changes planned each night. Her favorite so far? The Il Gattopardo premiere, hosted by Gucci and Martin Scorsese Friday night. For the world restoration premiere of the 1963 film, Beckinsale wore an antique white gown detailed with silver beading from Gucci Première, the new couture line from the design house. “I loved that dress, it was just so pretty,” she said. But even with a team of stylists, it did take some multi-tasking to achieve. “I actually went to the jury meeting that afternoon with my hair in curlers which got a few laughs from the rest of them!” –Monique Jessen

The 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival may have pulled in stylish stars from Salma Hayek to Cate Blanchett to Naomi Watts, but no one could quite match actress and film festival juror Kate Beckinsale for sheer quantity of glam looks. The busy brunette bombshell donned many frocks, from chic day dresses to all-out, over-the-top gowns, but we somehow managed to narrow down her red carpet looks to four favorites. The British actress gave French fans a taste of what was to come when she stepped out opening night in a frothy pale-blue tulle Marchesa dress for the premiere of Robin Hood. A few days later, she got cameras flashing again at the Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps screening in an antique-white gown with silver beading detail from Gucci Première. The following week, at the premiere of Spanish film Biutiful, Beckinsale turned up the heat in a black sequined Balmain dress with a gold studded belt and thigh-high slit that revealed plenty of leg. For her fashion finale, the 36-year-old star opted for Nina Ricci, donning a strapless black tiered gown from the designer to close the Cannes Film Festival. With so many stunning red carpet appearances, it’s tough to decide which of Beckinsale’s styles worked best. Tell us: Which was your favorite look from Kate Beckinsale at Cannes? Kate Beckinsale Dyes Her Hair Blonde

Kate Beckinsale has turned to the bottle–the bottle of hair dye, that is. The actress debuted a new honey-blonde hair color while stopping off at LAX airport on Friday, en route to Mexico with her husband. The look is quite a change from the actress’s signature chocolate-colored tresses. And although she usually sticks to brunette, this isn’t the first time that Kate has experimented with her locks; she took to the shears this past summer to try out a shorter, shoulder-length cutTell us: Do you like Kate Beckinsale’s bottle-blonde hair color or do you hope that she goes back to brunette?–Kim Peiffer

The hottest thing in Hollywood right now is Helmut Lang’s sexy, snuggly “Chasm” jacket, spotted on A-listers from Halle Berry to Kate Bosworth. In the five-way fashion faceoff, the stars showed how versatile the jersey-and-leather motorcycle jacket could be, wearing it with a range of chic and casual looks. Halle and Kate Beckinsale layered the $1,140 shearling coat over comfy travel attire while at the airport; the leather sleeves added edge to January Jones’s and Ciara’s errand-running ensembles and basic boots; and Kate Bosworth wore hers over a flirty floral Dolce & Gabbana maxidress to stay warm while at Sundance. Call it color commitment-phobia: Just weeks after Kate Beckinsale said goodbye to her signature brunette locks and debuted a bright new blonde hue, the actress switched things up yet again! Beckinsale stepped out Sunday night at the Vanity Fair post-Oscar party without the bottle blonde hair she’s been rocking since late January, instead showing off a back-to-brunette look, complete with warm highlights. Is This Woman the ‘Ultimate Celebrity’?

Ultimate Celebrity Woman
Courtesy FeelUnique.com

Apparently, the public doesn’t find just one star sexy enough. British beauty site FeelUnique.com recently ran a poll to find the world’s “Ultimate Celebrity” — a woman who has the best traits from some of the world’s most beautiful women — and created this mash-up using the most popular elements of today’s hottest stars.

According to the results, the Ultimate Celebrity has the glossy brunette locks of the Duchess of Cambridge, the eyebrows of Megan Fox, the eyes of X Factor judge Cheryl Cole and the nose of Kate Beckinsale.

For her cheekbones, voters preferred those of Keira Knightley; her lips are those of Angelina Jolie and her chin is borrowed from Gwyneth Paltrow. For the ideal chest, voters selected Kelly Brook (link slightly NSFW), a British model-actress and former Playboy pin-up.

FeelUnique.com likens the outcome to “Angelina’s long-lost sister,” though we could see her fitting in with the Kardashians, as well. Then again, the whole thing is feeling a little S1m0ne to us. Tell us: What do you think of the “Ultimate Celebrity”? Whose elements would you use to create the perfect woman?

Summer ShoesGetty (2); INF

We’ll admit it: We have total shoe envy. Our flats and flip-flops are no match for the shoes we spotted on some stars this week … meaning we’ll be spending this weekend shopping for some new kicks.

Solange Knowles (left) arrived at the CFDA Awards in New York on Monday wearing sexy striped Missoni sandals complete with a clear strap and Lucite heel. Though they’re from the brand’s fall/winter collection, to us, they’re perfect for a night out this season.

Jessica Biel (center) flashed a similar amount of skin in her refreshing mint-green and white Barbara Bui sandals, worn to the MTV Movie Awards. We don’t know about you, but those shoes remind us of ice cream … and we want more!

Kate Beckinsale (right) also had picnics and pools in mind when she stepped out in Los Angeles wearing Pierre Hardy canvas multicolored wedges. They brought the perfect splash of color to her breezy white pants. Tell us: Have you seen the perfect pair of summer shoes yet? What kind of footwear are you planning to wear this season?

Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale made more big impressions on the red carpet Tuesday, arriving at the Total Recall premiere in Dublin in gorgeous Zac Posen and Donna Karan creations, respectively.

But those weren’t the only dresses the stars donned last night; each woman managed to step out in a second stellar look while promoting the film in Ireland.

For the premiere after-party, Biel selected a nude, lacy Dolce & Gabbana number, accessorizing with black pumps, a sleek clutch and messy updo. And Beckinsale opted for even more color than her Karan gown, wearing a coral H&M top, blue Diane von Furstenberg skirt and patterned nude heels while out and about.

We can’t wait to see where the next stop on their world tour takes them — and what they’ll wear!

Red Carpet Trend Report: What’s Sizzling & What’s Fizzling

Red Carpet Trends WireImage; DailyCeleb.com; WireImage

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel’s Total Recall press tour outfits have dominated the red carpet this week, and the two ladies have proven they know how to dress (most of the time!). But don’t worry, we’ve kept our eye on all the other parties, premieres and launches to give you the most thorough breakdown of what we’re loving and (not quite loving) trend-wise this week. Lets get to it:

Up: Sculptural dresses: Now this is how do you old-school Hollywood glamour in 2012. Kate Beckinsale does screen siren hair and makeup well, but it’s the graphic detailing on her Donna Karan gown that really gives the look a modern-day update.

Up: Boots with dresses: We’re seeing more starlets try hot minis with bold boots, and though we’re not totally sold on the look just yet, we can see it growing on us if more ladies master the style like Nicole Scherzinger did in her Nikki Rich leather sheath and lace-up kicks.

Down: Heavy jewelry: A fab statement necklace has been the go-to accessory on the red carpet for a while now, but recently we’ve spotted more fashionistas donning delicate and simple jewels – and we kind of dig it. Just think about how much better Jessica Biel‘s Christian Dior dress would have looked with softer gems.

Five Fun Ways to Wear Printed Pants

Celebs in Printed PantsSplash News Online; AKM-GSI; Splash News Online; AKM-GSI; FameFlynet

We get it: You’re skeptical of silky printed pants. You have every right to be. Do them wrong, and you’re in pajama territory. Or worse: Ridiculous fancy sweatpant territory.

But there’s hope, and it comes in the form of these five celebs, who have all worn printed pants within the last few weeks and looked darn adorable doing so. In styles ranging from super-comfy to super-funky, they give us assurance that we too can pull off this tricky trend.

RELATED PHOTOS: Check out even more cool ways to wear this trend!

From left: Pippa Middleton‘s outfit would look just as good with jeans, but her Alice by Temperley pants give the look a bright spin that ensures she’ll stand out on the dance floor. Zoë Saldana‘s Ella Moss cropped patterned pair can be dressed up, but with jeans and cool sunglasses, they’re perfect for a low-key walk around town (much better than ratty sweats!). Kate Beckinsale looks totally polished (but completely comfortable) in her racer-stripe Diane von Furstenberg pair and a black blazer while stepping off a flight.

Finally, Gwen Stefani plays up the funky aspect of her bold, blousy pair with multihue Quay Eyeware frames and eye-catching yellow sandals, while Disney star Zendaya embraces the look completely by going head-to-toe with the print and bright pink shades of her cropped pants.

Diane Kruger outfits AKM-GSI, Landov, Ramey

Part of us is jealous that we didn’t score an invitation to Hollywood mega-producer Joel Silver’s Memorial Day bash. But the other part is glad we didn’t have to face the stiff outfit competition from stars like Diane Kruger and Gwen Stefani (not pictured).

Even though we were armed with three totally adorable looks to take us through the weekend, we still found ourselves with major outfit envy when we spotted these stars.

RELATED PHOTOS: See even more bold star style from the weekend!

From left, one of our favorite looks was Kate Beckinsale‘s sexy take on shorts. Her shimmery brocade pair looked extra-sophisticated with a cream top and matching embellished chunky-heeled sandals, but her neon satchel was the perfect finishing touch to prevent her from looking overly dressy at a laid-back BBQ.

Diane Kruger did her usual adorably effortless thing, tucking an oxford shirt studded with tiny stars into a button-up A-line skirt with a similarly subtle print, then adding just Robert Clergerie patent spectator brogues and a red lip for finishing touches.

And Dianna Agron showed off a fun, fresh way to wear a lacy white sundress: Top it with a graphic cropped jacket and give it even more edge with a slouchy black bag and funky sunglasses. Her Matt Bernson flats were the finishing touch.

Tell us: Who had your favorite Memorial Day outfit? Which will you try this summer?

This Week's Best Dressed: Kate Beckinsale's Look Really Suits Her

It’s been a week full of jaw-dropping gowns and sleek dresses, so imagine our surprise when a basic black pantsuit nabbed the top spot in the race for Best Dressed star of the week. Kate Beckinsale’s Helmut Lang number, racking up over 25,000 likes, was taken up a notch by the actress’s bright pink cap-toe Christian Louboutin pumps (BRB, adding them to our Must Buy When We’re Millionaires file).

Hot on her (fashionable!) heels is Elizabeth Hurley in a pink sheath promoting Breast Cancer Awareness, as well as Modern Family star Sarah Hyland in a Clover Canyon dress. And hot Hollywood mom Molly Sims takes the No. 3 title in her printed gray-and-black dress with a flared hemline, plus red pumps (check out our weekend sales roundup for a similar pair) at an Airbnb event in L.A.

Our personal favorite rounds out the group in the No. 10 spot: Jamie Chung. We’ve been dreaming of the neckline of her Cushnie et Ochs dress since she stepped out in it at the N.Y.C. Gravity premiere. (But, of course, we would expect nothing less from our fashion-forward Celeb Style Council member!)

We wanna know: Does Beckinsale deserve the top spot? If not, who does? And are you as obsessed with Jamie Chung’s neckline as we are?

This Week's Best Dressed Star: Kate Beckinsale Gives Us Wardrobe and Hair Envy

We figured after seeing the parade of jaw-dropping gowns at the LACMA Art + Film Gala we’d have a Best Dressed winner in the bunch, and we were totally right (don’t mind us, just patting ourselves on the back). In fact, we’re not even sure we’d have a Top 10 list this week without the event, as it was responsible for six of the most loved looks.

Leading the pack with a 95% approval rating was Kate Beckinsale in a stunning strapless Gucci gown that made her look like an Old Hollywood siren (we love the embroidered waist detail!). Plus, as usual, her hair gave us serious mane envy. And Olivia Wilde trailed closely behind in a Gucci halter dress that put all other maternity wear to shame.

RELATED PHOTOS: See what all the stars are wearing on the red carpet

Our favorite gown of the week rounded out the Top 10: Kate Hudson’s insane Gucci gown — actually, is it even considered a gown if it’s more of a blush skirt with two tiny strips of silver fabric? Regardless, she looked unreal, and we’d like to award her with an honorary Best Dressed title.

Which Kate did you prefer: Beckinsale or Hudson? Or do you think the title should go to someone totally different. Share your thoughts below!

Tragically, most of us don’t have our own personal glam squad to get us ready for all those parties and weddings on our holiday calendar. But that doesn’t mean you have to rely on the same old hairstyle you wear everyday. We know you want to change things up for those fancier events, so we rounded up five celebrity-inspired styles you can recreate at home.

Formal ponytails are huge in Hollywood right now, and no one does the trend better than Kate Beckinsale. As our Style Director Andrea Lavinthal points out in the video above, Beckinsale masters the perfect balance of height in the front and volume in the back. And if you want to move away from ponies all together, Miranda Kerr and Miley Cyrus have both sported some fun looks you may want to try out.

Getting dressed to the nines: Check. Red carpet interviews: Check. Stage performances: Check. What’s left? Doing it all over again at the Grammys afterparties! Stars continued to step out in style post-show — here are a few of the looks that caught our eye after the cameras stopped rolling.

Katy Perry took home the Grammy for “Most Outfit Changes,” slipping into a cleavage-baring powder blue gown with sequin detailing for the Sony Music Entertainment post-Grammy reception at L.A. The princess dress followed her two big Valentino moments during the show and her supernatural-inspired ensemble for her “Dark Horse” performance. This time, though, she had an additional accessory on her arm — boyfriend John Mayer.

RELATED: Make your Grammys Best Dressed list now!

Then there was Kate Beckinsale, who inspired us to book back-to-back spin classes. The actress showed off her super-toned body in a floral Rubin Singer mini dress, teamed with her signature voluminous pony at Warner Music Group’s annual Grammy party. Next up, Chrissy Teigen switched from one curve-loving gown (this metallic Johanna Johnson stunner) to another: a sheer black Alon Livné design with a dominatrix-inspired bodice — though she kept in the fierce hairline braid which nabbed her a beauty award. Rounding out the group, Kat Graham ditched the dresses (and a bra!) for a turquoise metallic Anthony Franco suit with a daring open blazer at the Warner Music Group Celebration.

Cameron Diaz (and Her Crazy-Toned Legs) Nabs This Week's Best Dressed Title

Cameron Diaz CinemaConGilbert Flores/Broadimage

Just weeks before Cameron Diaz stepped out in this Victoria Beckham original, the designer posted an image of the dress on Instagram with the caption, “I’m so excited!! My favorite look from my spring/summer show is now available on my site!! x vb.” And we bet she’d also be pretty excited to know that Cameron has just been crowned PEOPLE’s Best Dressed of the Week. The star received over 25,000 “Love It” votes in the flirty design and landed at the top of our Most Loved Looks list.

Cameron’s toned legs seem to go on forever in the gray mini she sported on the red carpet at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. We love that the dress breaks with an asymmetrical hemline to reveal a second, pleated white skirt underneath. The actress finished her look with a pair of Saint Laurent pumps — putting the cherry on top (or this case bottom) of a perfect fashion sundae.

The actress also captured our No. 7 spot this week in a black Dior dress, worn to the Amsterdam premiere of The Other Woman. Once again her stems were on display, giving us motivation for a major lunge day at the gym.

Naomi Watts stole second place in a royal-blue Elie Saab jumpsuit featuring some lace triangle cutouts at the décolletage for the BVLGARI LVCEA unveiling in Switzerland. Also deserving a shout out in the skin-revealing department are Kate Beckinsale, who selected a Jenny Packham cutout gown and Margot Robbie who stunned in an off-the-shoulder scarlet Paper London jumpsuit (that’s right, two jumpsuits in the Top 10 this week!), both at the Jameson Empire Film Awards in London.

Do you think that Cameron stole the spotlight with her magnificent minis, or should the trophy have gone to a contender with a little more length to her dress?

How was your Memorial Day weekend? What did you wear? (Surely Kim wasn’t the only one wearing white!) Did you bust out the bikini, hit the trails in your finest yoga pants or finally debut your prettiest new sundress?

Celebs wrestled with these big existential questions as well, and for the most part, the answer was “bikinis with a side of stylish summer attire.” Above, the celebrity attendees at producer Joel Silver’s annual Memorial Day barbeque turned it out in predictably cool fashion. Diane Kruger (far left) wore a trompe l’oeil graphic-print shift and lace-up sandals; Kate Beckinsale wore an incredibly crisp and chic white romper with mirrored silver pumps; Kaley Cuoco used one of our favorite transitional wardrobe tricks by topping a maxi with a leather jacket; and January Jones wore a sweet print midi dress with cap sleeves, plus a straw sun hat and fresh-feeling hoops.
